They hear rumors of strange happenings in the farms to the south involving exploding sheep and missing bones. The town sheriff, Sergeant Barley confirms the rumors and asks the party to go investigate.
The trail leads to an abandoned fortress, inhabited by skeletons and goblins (Strange misshapen skeletons made from animal bones marked with the symbol of Zakath). A captured goblin sorceror explains that further in the basement, a necromancer he calls the master is conducting his experiments with skeletons.
Ted comes up with the idea to smoke the necromancer out, and the heroes defeat the necromancer’s bodyguards, but the necromancer himself seems to have slipped away further into the basement.
